British Council Blog Competition

Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world – Nelson Mandela (1918 – 2013). It is indeed true that education is the backbone of every society and nation at large. This is based on the assertion that a nation which fails to give its citizens the best education is mostly rendered incompetent and stagnant.

In this day and age, people travel far and wide in order to equip themselves with the requisite skills and knowledge that education can offer.  The quest which often begins with a search for an institution that can offer value for money cannot be ruled out .It is important to note that a country that has produced great men and legends of history is often chosen readily since its achievements and credentials speak on their behalf. In my case, I will look no further than the home of the Union Jack, Great Britain for the reasons I will enlist here below.

The United Kingdom commonly known as Great Britain boasts of the perfect history and ambience to prepare an individual for a future of employment, achievement and life in general. The serenity of the atmosphere is one conducive for both educational and recreational purposes.
Government in the United Kingdom provides a bird’s eye view of the parliamentary, constitutional, unitary and monarch systems of government, a peculiarity which is uncommon to other countries. This enables one to have easy access to all proceedings and processes involved in each kind of system at all times. Unlike other places where one system is opted for, the United Kingdom has been able to accommodate all these systems and created a sort of co-existence amongst them such that the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages.

The country boasts of worldwide accredited universities and colleges which have been known to produce some great personalities over the years. The University of Oxford, Cambridge, Kent, Manchester and London are a few of those. These institutions have trained men and women
of reputation and good standing making them assets rather than liabilities and it is a priviledge I would gladly partake of.

The United Kingdom which consists of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland is also home of legendary playwright and poet William Shakespeare whose literary works are being studied up till date here in Ghana. I cannot help but mention William Wordsworth, a great poet whose poems are interesting to study. Other authors of heart throbbing works such as Jane Austin, Lewis Carroll, Charles Dickens, George Elliot and author of Robinson Crusoe, Daniel Defoe who have made reading pleasurable were born and bred in the United Kingdom.
The British Broadcasting Corporation, the United Kingdom’s publicly funded radio, television and internet body makes and packages news attractively. I am glad to say  that regardless of the challenges that faces such institutions , BBC covers news and broadcasts reportage son wars, conflicts and news around the world and furnishes their firm with good presenters that
sets them apart from other world acclaimed broadcasting firms. Their programme Focus on Africa provides insight on the African continent to the rest of the world.

Whiles studying, an individual cannot help but enjoy life as well. The recreational facilities that the United Kingdom has to offer are wide and varying: a sight to behold. The picturesque Trafalgar Square formerly home to thousands of pigeons is located in London and is often considered the heart of the city of Westminster. It is a place I have yearned to visit all my life .it is a large park with a touch of statues and monuments. Other places of interest I would want to visit are the Buckingham Palace which is guarded by red robed sentries, the Westminster Abbey and the Wembley Stadium.
It would be very honoured to visit the United Kingdom let alone be given the priviledge to study there as it has always been my dream to study and live there even if it is for a while. The homeland of Queen Elizabeth II and Prime Minister David Cameron is a place I have always yearned to be.
